In the clip, a woman physically stops a white man with dreadlocked hair – identified by SF Weekly as Cory Goldstein – and accuses him of appropriating a traditionally black hairstyle.
She also asks her friend if he has a pair of scissors.
‘You’re saying I can’t have a hair style because of your culture. Why?’ asks Cory.
‘Because it’s my culture,’ responds the woman.
Cory tries to defend his choice of hairstyle by saying that it’s ‘Egyptian’, but the woman doesn’t budge.
Cory finally walks away from the situation.
‘I just got physically assaulted because I have dreadlocks woe,’ he later wrote on Facebook.
‘I did file a formal campus police report and I decided to let the education system deal with her.’
Both students are at San Francisco State University. SFSU said: ‘
‘San Francisco State University promotes the rights of the campus community to engage in free speech, but does not condone behavior that impedes the safety or well-being of others.
‘We are taking the matter seriously and will promptly and thoroughly investigate this incident through applicable University channels, including our campus student conduct procedures.’
