Missy Elliott, Kelly Clarkson, Zendaya, and more record single for Michelle Obama

In advance of her keynote speech at the SXSW festival, Michelle Obama released a charity single called “This Is For My Girls,” which features an expansive roster of female artists: Missy Elliott, Kelly Clarkson, Kelly Rowland, Zendaya, Janelle Monae, Chloe & Halle, Lea Michele, and Motown artist Jadagrace.
The single was penned by songwriter Diane Warren, who described it as “We Are the World meets Lady Marmalade,” the BBC reports. An anthemic celebration of girl power, “This Is For My Girls” will tie into Mrs. Obama’s keynote speech; the First Lady is expected to talk about her Let Girls Learn initiative, which seeks to bolster global education rates among adolescent girls. All proceeds from the single, which is available exclusively on iTunes, will be donated to Let Girls Learn.
